Abstract

GDF11 was reported to decline with age and to have muscle and heart rejuvenating effects. These reports were disputed. A Cell Metabolism paper now shows that in human beings, GDF11 does not decline with age and is actually a risk factor for frailty and other morbidities (Schafer etal., 2016).
