Abstract

A new method for determination of electron capture in BF 3 proportional counters is described. From the measured impulse distribution in dependence of the place of primary ionisation, the factor of electron capture c and the capture cross section for electrons σ el is calculated. It can be shown, that electron capture in BF 3 causes a reduction of pulse height. The dependence of σ el from the gas amplification A is given for BF 3 pressures of P = 30, 60 and 76 cmHg.
