Abstract

The polarographic behaviour of the metal oxides dissolved in molten borax at 820°C has been investigated.Definite results were found for the following oxides: CuO, CdO, ZnO, GeO2, SnO2, Sb2O3, Bi2O3, Cr2O3, MoO3, WO3, Fe2O3, CoO, NiO.Well developed polarographic waves were obtained in all cases. The equation: id = k . N applies to all investigated oxides.A stagewise reduction has been observed for chromium-oxide and tungsten-oxide.The equation ϕ = const - RTαnFln (iid − i), which takes into consideration the chemical polarization, is the most suitable for the description of the polarographic waves.
