Abstract

The article discusses post‐colonialism in traditional Chinese literary translation principles in multicultural contexts. It uses Fu Yan's translation principle ‘elegance ‘ and his translation of Thomas Henry Huxley's Evolution and Ethics as a case study. The article illustrates how a translator uses a translation principle which bears a colonial stamp but achieves a post‐colonialist function in reality, and thus how a theory can be deconstructed and renewed.
