Abstract

Photocatalytic degradation of organic contaminants has recently been a prominent topic in wastewater remediation. The present work reports on the synthesis of novel 2D/2D Bi2WO6/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction photocatalytic composite materials by simple electrostatic self-assembly of ZnIn2S4 and Bi2WO6 nanosheets. The photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) was used to assess the performance of the as-prepared samples. Bi2WO6/ZnIn2S4 nanocomposites showed enhanced activities, and the optimized sample (BWO/ZIS-50) had the greatest reaction rate constant (2.303% min−1), 2.4 and 2.2 times that of pristine Bi2WO6 and ZnIn2S4. The photocatalytic activity was increased because of better light absorption and faster photogenerated carrier separation/migration via the Z-scheme mechanism. This research is anticipated to make a contribution to the design and synthesis of 2D/2D Z-scheme nanocomposites for photocatalytic wastewater treatment.
