Abstract

The static electrification occurring in gas fluidised beds is found to be generated by the motion of particles around gas bubbles, particularly in the region of the wake. Mean particle size is found to influence the amount of charge generated. The relative humidity of the gas does not affect charge generation but influences strongly the rate of charge dissipation. A method of visualising particle motion based on electrostatic charging is described.
