Abstract

Ultrafine fibers of chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol)(CS/PVA) were prepared by electrostatic spinning. The effects of solution concentration, mass ratio of CS/PVA and internal diameter of syringe needle on the morphology of ultrafine fibers were investigated by scanning electron microscope(SEM).Furthermore, photocurable monomer triethylene glycol dimethylacrylate(TEGDMA)and photoinitiator 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenylpropan-1-one were introduced into the CS/PVA blend solution to increase the water-resistance of the fibers, which is a common shortcoming of water soluble polymer fiber. The SEM results showed that, after UV radiation, the water-resistance of fibers was obviously improved by intrafiber-photocrosslinking when the CS/PVA weight ratios is 8∶2 and the concentration of TEGDMA and photoinitiator are 4 wt% and 0.12 wt%,respectively. The average diameter of fibers obtained by this method is around 200 nm.
