Abstract

Electrosorption of 6-amino-5-nitroso-1,3-dimethyluracil (ANDMU) on an active carbon fiber (ACF) electrode was investigated by use of a classic three-electrode cell by monitoring the concentration change by use of UV spectrophotometry. Solution pH substantially affected the electrosorption behavior of ANDMU, because ANDMU exists in different states at different pH. In acidic solutions, electrosorption of ANDMU on ACF was, to some extent, reversible. With positive polarization for extended times, the increase in the concentration of ANDMU caused by electrodesorption leveled off. A low polarization intensity is suitable for electrodesorption to avoid electrooxidation of ANDMU, because higher polarization intensity means higher electric potential, probably exceeding the electrochemical oxidization potential.
