Abstract

Diabetics are known to develop wounds that are associated with significant levels of morbidity and mortality. The majority of amputations in the US are on the diabetic lower extremity where previous ulceration may have contributed to infection and additional complications necessitating the subsequent amputation (National Diabetes Data Group, 1995;Frykberg and Armstrong, 2002).
