Abstract

The electrophoretic karyotype of Saprolegnia monoica was determined by contour-clamped homogeneous electric field (CHEF) gel electrophoresis. Eight chromosomal bands were separated. The size of these bands, based on migration relative to those of chromosomal DNA of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe and Hansenula wingei, is estimated to be between 0.9 and 5.8 Mb. The genome size is estimated to be 51 Mb.
