Abstract

Sera of healthy pregnant women and of women with fetal death (missed labor and missed abortion) were fractionated by paper electrophoresis. Statistical analysis did not show any difference between electrophoretic fractions of total serum in the two examined groups. However, when electrophoretic fractions of seromucoid were compared, the following differences were found: seromucoid-albumin level was higher in the pathologic group; seromucoid-α2, β, and γ globulin levels were lower in the pathologic group than in the control group. About threefold elevation of seromucoid-albumin fraction was found to be characteristic for the cases of fetal death. The seromucoid level as well as the percentage of seromucoid in the total serum protein was found to be higher in the pathologic group.
