Abstract

The present study was undertaken to estimate the soluble protein content of gastrointestinal mucosa along with the electrophoretic pattern of mucosal proteins in Khaki Campbell (KC) duck. Estimation of mucosal soluble proteins of KC duck revealed highest concentration in duck duodenum (24.7±0.09mg/g) and lowest in colo-rectum (17.4±0.04mg/g). When mucosal proteins were subjected to SDS-PAGE a total of 18 bands were detected in duodenal mucosal extract with the molecular weight range 225 kDa to 19.5 kDa, whereas, 16 bands were detected in the proteins obtained from the colo-rectal mucosa with a range of molecular weight 109 kDa to 21 kDa. Only12 bands were obtained from protein of pyloric mucosa with molecular weight ranging from 159 kDa to 19.5 kDa. Molecular weight obtained by SDS-PAGE is not very accurate and consistent so other methods need to be employed in order to intricately differentiate the physical and chemical properties of the proteins.
