Abstract

The described technique of thin-layer starch gel electrophoresis allows the direct use of whole blood as electrophoretic substrate for the determination of serum haptoglobin and red blood cell catalase types. Capillary blood absorbed into filter paper strips may be applied to the gel surface freshly, or it may be stored at −20° for later use. An exposure to room temperature for from one to several days of blood dried on filter paper strips does not interfere significantly with subsequent electrophoretic results.
