Abstract

The search for fundamentally new methods to activate the carbon dioxide molecule and involve it in various reactions attracts special attention. In this respect, the problem of the possible use of Lewis acids and protic superacids has been repeatedly discussed in the literature. However, no actual results in this field have been obtained until recently. Now the authors can report the first example of direct electrophilic activation of the CO{sub 2} molecule by aprotic Lewis acids under mild conditions.
