Abstract

Double layer conducting polymer composite consisting of polyaniline and polypyrrole was prepared with electrochemical polymerization in water medium. Prior to synthesize of double layer polymer film, preparation of monolayer of polyaniline doped with optically active camphor sulfonic acid was carried out to examine optical property of the mono-layer polyaniline. The polymer shows electrochemical driven change in optical rotation. Cyclic voltammetry measurements revealed that electro-activity of the polymer. These results demonstrated that the polymer thus obtained has electro-optically active. Next, sequential double step polymerization of aniline and pyrrole successfully prepared electro-optically active conductive polymer composite. Infrared absorption spectroscopy measurements evaluated that the chemical structure of the double layer composite. The composite shows optical rotation.
