Abstract

We demonstrated an electro-optic polarization conversion type modulator using domain-inverted 8 mol% MgO doped congruent LiTaO3 for the first time. The wavelength acceptance bandwidth was ∼15 nm, which was much broader than that of the LiNbO3 device. The maximum polarization conversion efficiency as high as 93% was obtained for the wavelength of 980 nm. The temperature acceptance bandwidth 2.0°C was in good agreement with the theoretical value.
