Abstract

The elastic electron-proton scattering cross section was measured at electron energies varied to attain q/sup 2/(4momentum transfer squared in F/sup - 2/) = 45, 75, 100, and 125 F/sup -2/ for a 35 deg scattering angle and q/sup 2/ = 75 and 100 F/sup -2/ for a 70 deg scattering angle. An attempt was made to separate the proton electromagnetic form factors, assuming the validity of the first Born approximation. The results are consistent with G/sub E/ = G/sub M/ at large momentum transfers and with a form factor decrease with momentum transfer increase. The data also are inconsistent with a core in either the electric or magnetic form factor. (D.C.W.)
