Abstract

As a consequence of the proportional vector current hypothesis connecting weak and electromagnetic interactions, hadronic final states are expected to predominate in ν e e reactions in the energy range 3 GeV < E cm < 5 GeV. A unitarity bound is derived relating the cross section for hadron production in ν e e collisions to that for ν μμ − production. If the observed cross section for e e annihilation in the range 3–5 GeV is extrapolated to higher energies, both e e and ν e e cross sections are found to reach their similar unitarity bounds at c.m. energies between 40–50 GeV.
