Abstract

A survey is given of the experimental studies of electron-ion recombination in liquid rare gases and other nonpolar dense molecular media such as supercritical and solid rare gases, and liquid hydrocarbons and tetramethylsilaneflMS), in which rate constants for electron-ion recombination (kr) and electron drift mobilities be) have been measured and compared with the theoretical rate Wnstants(kD). The values of kr in high mobility media, i.e.,in liquid rare gases, are much smaller than those of k ~ , which is called the breakdown of the Debye theory, stimulating a lot of new theoretical investigations.
