Abstract
AbstractAn electronically tunable broadband E‐shaped patch antenna (ESPA) is proposed and analyzed using equivalent circuit concept. The effects of notch parameters such as notch length, width, and position are analyzed to select the optimum values for broadband operation of ESPA. Under the optimum conditions of ESPA, the effect of bias voltage of tunnel diode on the performance of the antenna is also analyzed. The theoretical investigations of the proposed antenna reveal that the tunable band of operation between 1.055 GHz (bandwidth 42.54%) and 1.324 GHz (bandwidth 49.77%) can be achieved by adjusting the bias voltage only. It is noted that the radiative power of the proposed antenna can be enhanced up to 5.67 dB as compared with the E‐shaped patch antenna. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
