Abstract

Abstract The electronic structure of AlxGa1−xAs sawtooth superlattices is investigated in the envelope function approximation. The lack of inversion symmetry of the effective potential leads to a spin-splitting of the valence subbands. These subbands are characterized by strong non-parabolicities and, in an external magnetic field parallel to the growth axis, by a complicated Landau level pattern.
