Abstract

Electronic structures and diamagnetic ring currents (DRCs) are studied with respect to two kinds of fragments modeling planar carbon microclusters. The distribution of the frontier π electrons depends on the topological bond network in the fragment. DRC, on the other hand, mostly flows the outside or “surface” of the fragments irrespective of the topological difference. Comparison of the nature of the DRC with the persistent current in the superconducting material is also attempted.
