Abstract

Electronic structures of prototypical half-metallic materials, CoS 2, have been investigated by means of absolute reflectivity measurements. We have found a significant change of the optical spectra with decrease in temperature. Such a spectral change can be interpreted in terms of splitting of the up-spin (e g↑) and down-spin (e g↓) e g-electrons, or the reconstruction of the electronic structure in the half-metallic state. Temperature variation of electronic structures of CoS 2 will be compared with that of the doped manganites.
