Abstract

An investigation on the electronic stopping power and the effective charge for a heavy ion in a hot target is made using linear-response dielectric theory. The charge distribution of the electrons bound to a projectile is determined by the Brandt-Kitagawa (BK) model [Phys. Rev. B 25, 3631 (1982)]. Some analytical expressions of the electronic stopping power and the effective charge are obtained in the limits of the low and high velocities, respectively.
