Abstract

The 2 Φ- 2 Δ (5700–6300 A ̊ ) and 2 Π- 2 Δ (3150–3450 A ̊ ) systems ascribed to the hitherto unknown molecular ion LaF + were found in the spectrum of a discharge. Rotational analysis showed that the lower state of both systems is common. The identification of the 2 Φ 5 2 - 2 Δ 5 2 satellite band made possible a direct determination of the doublet splitting of all analyzed states. Molecular orbital configurations which give rise to participating states are discussed.
