Abstract

The T 1-T 0 electronic spectrum of jet-cooled phenyl nitrene has been examined by the LIF technique for the first time. The observed spectrum is ascribed to phenyl nitrene, which could be obtained by an excimer laser photolysis of two different precursors. The system origin has been determined to be located at 3683 Å. The vibrational structure of this state is represented by typical six-membered ring modes. This fact and the result of the measured fluorescence lifetimes suggest the interaction between the lowest two excited states is fairly weak. The dispersed fluorescence spectra from prominent bands is also presented.
