Abstract

The room-temperature electronic spectra of the chromium chalcocarbonyl complexes, Cr(CO) 5(CX) and (η 6-C 6H 6)Cr(CO) 2(CX) (X = O, S, Se), have been recorded in solution, and in some cases, in the gas phase. Assignments for the thiocarbonyl and selenocarbonyl spectra are proposed on the basis of the literature assignments for the parent all-CO derivatives. Overall, the data support the order of increasing electron withdrawing capacity of the chalcocarbonyl ligands as CO < CS < CSe.
