Abstract
We study the electronic specific heat of the heavy-fermions and mixed-valence systems using the periodic Anderson model. A variational method has been used in these calculations. The electronic specific heat increases rapidly in the low temperature region, shows a maxima and then decreases. This maxima may well be associated to the formation of a narrow quasiparticle band near Fermi level and to the narrow gap in the energy spectrum evident from the density of states curves.
