Abstract

The local-spin-density ground state properties of three Ni-based Heusler alloys Ni 2MnY with Y = In, Sn and Sb have been calculated selfconsistently using the linear-muffin-tin-orbital (LMTO) method. The ground state properties are in good agreement with available experimental data. In particular the observed decrease of magnetic moment with increasing atomic number for the metaloid is reproduced theoretically and explained as a rigid band effect.
