Abstract

Electronic excitation and capture processes are studied incollisions involving systems with only one active electron suchas the alkaline (Li)-proton in the medium-energy region(0.1-15 keV). Using the semiclassical impact parameter method,the probabilities and the orientation parameter are calculated fortransitions between initial and/or final oriented states. Theresults show a strong asymmetry in the probabilities dependingon the orientation of the initial and/or final states. Anintuitive view of the processes, by means of the concepts ofpropensity and velocity matching rules, is provided.
