Abstract

Abstract One aspect of a nine-month comprehensive research project of the Allen County Superior Court Juvenile Electronic Monitoring program Pilot Project is reported here. The author discusses characteristics of the juveniles and the impact this program had on participating youth and the parent(s) or guardian(s) involved in this pilot project. The findings indicate that a well-designed electronic monitoring program for juveniles has many advantages and is an appropriate alternative for juvenile offenders. Not only did the program make juveniles responsible for their behavior, but it provided an opportunity for juveniles to avoid criminal activity. There is, however, considerable research yet to be completed in this area before definitive results and recommendations will be possible.
