Abstract

Electronic ink promises to revolutionize the way in which society receives information. It will feature in everything from commercial signs to the displays on handheld electronic devices. We may even end up reading electronic books and newspapers. The ink – a so-called smart material that responds to an electric field – offers all the benefits that paper enjoys from conventional ink. If electronic ink fulfils expectations, it will spell huge success for a company that was founded by a couple of 22-year-old American scientists in 1997.
