Abstract

Background: 6 million US children have asthma resulting in 800,000 asthma-emergency room visits per year. Asthma Action Plans are recommended for patients to improve asthma control but are not consistently utilized in busy pediatric primary care clinics. Specific Aim: The specific aim of this project was to develop EHR quality tools to increase the use of written Asthma Action Plans (wAAP) to pediatric patients to improve asthma control and reduce asthma-related ER visits. Design/Methods: Our primary care pediatric system includes 8 clinics with 37 pediatricians serving 46,000 patients approximately 10% with asthma.
