Abstract

The synthesis, electronic state, magnetic property of a verdazyl radical 1 in which ferrocene ( Fc) is covalently attached as a functionality group were reported. The electronic ground state and the magnetic property were studied by ESR and SQUID. The photo-excited state was also investigated by a time-resolved ESR (TRESR) experiment. The photo-excited quartet state with a unique dynamic electron polarization and the polarized doublet state were detected by TRESR, which suggest the existence of the electron-transfer pathway from the Fc functionality group to the anthracene moiety and the acceleration of the energy relaxation to the ground state by the attachment of the Fc group.
