Abstract

The electronic contribution to the normal state ultrasonic attenuation of longitudinal waves propagating in aluminum has been measured over a wide range of ql. For ql ⪢ 1 the limiting values of α/ f differ from the free electron predictions. In the limit ql ⪡1 the data can be fitted to the free electron theory with an isotropic mean free path close to that obtained from resistivity measurements.
