Abstract

The Hamiltonian of a biexciton molecule containing electron-hole exchange terms is not symmetric under separate permutation of spatial or spin coordinates of the two electrons or two holes. In the ground state, two spin singlets, the symmetric and the antisymmetric one, are mixed. In the effective mass approximation, the envelope contains two components of opposite permutational symmetry. The binding energy of a biexciton, as well as the ratio of the mixing of the states of opposite symmetry, are calculated for CdS, CdSe and ZnS crystals.
