Abstract

A model is presented for electron transfer reactions on insulating passive films with a high concentration of localized states in the band gap; electron transport through the film is effected through a hopping mechanism. Current-potential curves are calculated as a function of the system parameters by Monte Carlo simulation. The presence of localized states also gives rise to an increase of the interfacial capacity. The model calculations are compared with experimental data from ion-implanted passive films.
