Abstract

The copolymer consisting of a redox monomer, 10-methyl-3-vinylphenothiazine, and an ion-conducting monomer,ω-methoxy-nona(ethylene oxide)methacrylate, has been prepared. The copolymer, complexed with lithium perchlorate, exhibits reversible redox activity in the absence of low molecular solvents, indicating that the copolymer can be regarded as an intrinsic ion/electron mixed conducting polymer. The electron transport property during the redox reactions has been explored by using a solid state electrochemical cell with a microelectrode. The electron diffusion coefficients in the copolymer are estimated at several temperatures.
