Abstract

From energy balance considerations in the ionosphere, it is shown that F-region absorption, A F , should be a function of the difference between electron and ion temperatures alone. This is tested by using the calculated values of A F from radar back-scatter measurements of electron temperature and electron concentration and is found to be true.
