Abstract

The positron lifetime spectra have been measured for an Al-substituted Y1 : 2 : 3 superconducting ceramic for the first time. The composition is YBa 2Cu 3− x Al x O y with x = 0-0.4. The electron and vacancy properties have been found from the present lifetime data. A significant Al-substitution dependence of the positron lifetime parameters was observed. The anomalous changes in these parameters were found near x = 0.15, which corresponds to the known structural transition from an orthorhombic to a tetragonal phase. The results prove the presence of electronic weak localization in the tetragonal phase. The effect of the electronic weak localization on the charge transfer and superconductivity was also discussed.
