Abstract
IN the course of studying the mechanism of vinyl polymerization on clay mineral substrates1 by means of electron spin resonance it became evident that strong electron spin resonance signals were associated with the original clays themselves. A survey of five different montmorillonites, two kaolinites and an illite has shown that this is a general phenomenon.
