Abstract

With the use of the electron spin resonance technique, it is confirmed that the Pd(I) complex ion (PdCl4)3− is formed in γ-irradiated K2PDCl4 and (NH4)2PdCl4. The chlorine superhyperfine coupling constants and the g values for the Pd(I) complex ion are used to obtain the fractional unpaired spin density in the chlorine 3s and 3p orbitals and the crystal field splittings, respectively.
