Abstract

Abstract Electron spin resonance and phosphorescence of phosphorescent triplet states of quinoline, isoquinoline and their protonated cations were studied in methanol:water (4:1 by volume) and in stretched poly(vinyl alcohol) films at 77 K. The zero-field splitting parameter β D β of isoquinoline decreases on protonation, the reverse of what is expected from an optically detected magnetic resonance study by Leinwand .
