Abstract

Thes-f interaction between the localized Gd moments and the conduction electrons in yttrium leads to an exchange narrowing of the fine structure due to the hexagonal crystalline field. The axial spin Hamiltonian parameterD, derived from the angular variation of the center of gravity of the observed resonance line, equals—140 Gauss. Thes-f interaction and additional indirect exchange interaction between the localized moments narrow the line to almost the homogeneous limit.
