Abstract

The quantum-mechanical problem of a hot electron scattered inelastically by a center with phonon degrees of freedom is considered for a one-dimensional model with a linear electron energy dispersion. The exact dynamics of the electron–phonon system is described nonperturbatively for an arbitrary electron–phonon coupling constant. The probability distribution for the number of emitted phonons has been calculated.
