Abstract

EPR signals in the developing apical organs as well as in top most leaf of wheat plant were studied. A broad six peak signal with g = 2 which arises from Mn ++ ions in plants and a narrow free radical signal with g = 2.0023 were detected in all the samples. The amplitude of the free radical signal increases sharply in the shoot apex during its transformation from vegetative to reproductive state. The leaf also shows a similar trend. It is suggested that utilization of free radical energy enhances in the transforming apex.
