Abstract

Electron paramagnetic resonance of Fe3+ substituted for In ions in (NH4)2InCl5⋅H2O is measured at room temperature using an X-band spectrometer. Angular variation of the data for the magnetic field orientation in the ac plane clearly indicates overlapping spectra from ions occupying two inequivalent sites. The z principal axes of the g tensor for the two sites lie in the ac plane, making angles of ± (40.00°±0.25°) from the a axis; the x principal axes of the g tensor for the two sites are coincident. The resonance data for the two sites can be fitted with the same values (within experimental errors) of the spin Hamiltonian parameters. The individual values of all the parameters are deduced from the data, in particular gzz=2.014±0.003, gxx=2.016±0.003, gyy=2.014±0.004, b02=−4.570±0.008 GHz, b22=2.545±0.008 GHz.
