Abstract

Surface lamellae from gyroscope gas bearings were examined using a transmission electron microscope. Finely dispersed spherical particles were observed, supporting the hypotheses that a film of colloidal oxide debris is formed. This can be considered a ‘carrier’ for the trapped polar compounds found in the surface of gas bearings.
