Abstract

PbTe films have been grown on heated muscovite mica substrates in vacuo and their structure has been investigated by transmission and replication electron microscopy. For substrate temperatures between 150° and 300°C, the films grew epitaxially with a nucleation density N s depending exponentially on temperature. Films annealed in vacuo in order to vary and control their electrical properties showed gross topological changes.
