Abstract

EXPERIMENTS on electron microscope studies of red blood corpuscles were conducted by Bessis (1950) and by Rebuck and Woods (1948). In their experiments structure was clearly demonstrated by electron microscopy. Reagan and Brueckner (1952) published electron micrographs of red blood corpuscles from hamsters bled at intervals following intracardiac injection with hamster adapted NDV and which showed a few particles similar to NDV virus.The California strain (#11,914) of Newcastle disease virus was used for this study and was obtained from the Bureau of Animal Industry, Department of Agriculture, Washington, D. C. This strain was isolated in embryonated eggs from a specimen sent from California to the Bureau of Animal Industry. The culture had been carried in 10-day embryonated chicken eggs through six serial passages.
